Getting Started

Taking your first steps into 3D!

Looking to get start on making cool poses and making even cooler animations with your beloved FFXIV character? Well, you made it to the right place!
Step 1 is finding the resources you need to get started, and (spoiler alert) since you’re reading this you already completed that, so good job!

If you have some experience with Blender or other 3D software before, great! A lot of this should be familiar to you, or at least you are able to follow along with learning new content without much issue.

If you are BRAND NEW to any 3D software, or even art as a whole, first off: Welcome! This is the beginning of your art journey and potentially your descent into madness (but in a positive way)!
You really can’t get away with “making animations of your character” without going through the same/similar struggles that other artists go through, because you are indeed creating art! You will go from struggle to excitement, from giving up to never feeling better, from not being able to finish projects to completing the best thing you’ve ever made.
Be prepared. It is not easy, and it will TAKE TIME. There are no magic shortcuts to this; it takes WORK!

Take a moment and really think about what that means for you. It may mean giving up on some gaming time or other activities to instead study animation and really get your ideas from your head onto a screen. But if you’re open minded, willing to learn, and can accept that you may really suck at first, then you’re right where you need to be!

Making 3D renders is both an art and a science, but first let’s start with just “holding the pencil”. Or in this case, learning the software itself! But it sure would help to have a character to work with first, right?

From Nothing to Something is your first stop!
